Nelson Henry Jochen

Nelson Henry Jochen, 87, died at his home in Schulenburg on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

The funeral was held on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, followed by interment in the Schulenburg City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Kolek, Derrl Ohnheiser, Jason Petter, Garrett Owens, Gunnar Owens and Pat Krecmer.

Rosary was said on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home.

Born on March 12, 1930 at Freyburg, he was the son of Herbert and Lina (Haas) Jochen. He and his wife Alice were married on Nov. 4,1950 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Weimar. After living in Houston for over 24 years, Nelson enjoyed retirement in Schulenburg. He enjoyed working at the farm in Freyburg where he grew up. He was a member of the Catholic Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Alice Jochen; a son, Harlan Jochen and wife Joette of Navasota; and two daughters, Nellwyn Petter and husband Ronny of Schulenburg, and Karen Owens and husband Jim of Pasadena. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Amanda McNiece and husband John and their children Scott and Cody; Kristel Jochen and son Hayden; Jason Petter and wife Carrie; Jennifer Stolle and husband Matt and their children Maddie and Annie; Garrett Owens; Gunnar Owens; Grace Owens; and Taloyre Keller and husband Darin and their children Dillon, Austyn, Lauren and Nathan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Deloris Ohnheiser.

Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
