Christmas Ham Sale benefitting Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church

Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Dubina will hold a Christmas ham sale featuring smoked peppered hams prepared by Craig Mechura and crew. The hams (pre-sale only) average 6-8 lbs. and cost $50 each. Pickup will be Saturday, Dec. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dubina Hall.

St. Rose School’s ‘Christmas Around the World’

“Christmas Around the World” benefitting St. Rose of Lima Catholic School will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Schulenburg Hall. 

A children’s program will begin at 4:30 p.m., with a German auction starting 30 minutes after the program. A beef stew dinner (dine-in or take-out) will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. Food booths in the International Food Court featuring foods from around the world will open at 5:30 p.m. There will also be a children’s carnival with inflatable playground, carnival games and cake walk. Weimar KCs Chicken Fried Steak Dinner

The Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 will serve a chicken fried steak dinner with sides on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 10:30 a.m. until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Family Center in Weimar. Cost is $12 each for the drive-thru-only plates.

Christmas Decorating Contest

The Greater Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce is seeking entries in its residential and commercial Christmas decorating contest. 

Entry deadline is Thursday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m., with judging Dec. 17 between 6 and 10 p.m.  Winning entries will be photographed on Saturday, Dec. 18 or Sunday, Dec. 19.  There is no cost to enter. Entries must have a Christmas theme and be within a five-mile radius of Schulenburg. Decisions of the judges are final. Prizes will be given for first, second and third place residential winners and ribbons will be given to commercial winners. An entry form is available in this week’s Sticker.

Chamber of Commerce ‘Shop Local Days’

The Chamber of Commerce is holding “Shop Local Days” from Nov. 26 thru Dec. 17. 

To participate, shop locally at Chamber members and spend at least $20 at five locations; get a “shop local” card and have it signed by each of those merchants. Cards with five signatures should be turned in to the Chamber office by Friday, Dec. 17 for a chance to win prizes. Cards are available at members’ locations and the Chamber office.

Christmas Services at Zion Lutheran Church

Zion Lutheran Church invites everyone for “A Service of Christmas Song and the Word” on Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. and Christmas morning worship on Saturday, Dec. 25 at 9 a.m. Zion Lutheran Church is located at 103 Keuper Ave.

Christmas Dinner For Those Who Are Alone

The annual Christmas dinner for those who are alone will be served on Christmas Day, Saturday, Dec. 25, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the KC Hall. Plates will be drive-thru, or the homebound can call the CCA Center, 979-743-4036, or Sheila Brossmann, 979-743-3576. RSVP is required by Wednesday, Dec. 22.  There will be a limit of two plates per family. The meal is sponsored by Schulenburg KC Council 2902 and volunteers.

Sticker Will Not Be Published Dec. 23

The Sticker will not have an issue on Thursday, Dec. 23, and staff will be on vacation from Monday, Dec. 20 through Friday, Dec. 24. 

Anyone wanting to place items in the Sticker prior to Christmas should submit them by Friday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. for the Thursday, Dec. 16 issue, which will be the Christmas edition – after that, the next issue will be Thursday, Dec. 30.

The Sticker will also be closed on Friday, Dec. 31 for New Year’s.

Christmas, New Year’s Holidays

Most local businesses will be closed on Christmas Day, Saturday, Dec. 25, and New Year’s Day, Saturday, Jan. 1.

The City of Schulenburg will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 23 & 24 for Christmas and Monday, Jan. 3 for New Year’s. Residential garbage pickup for the week of Christmas will be as follows: north side of town on Tuesday, Dec. 21 (the usual day for the north side); and south side of town, on Wednesday, Dec. 22.

Fayette County offices will also be closed on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 23 & 24, and Monday, Jan. 3.
